NYPD officer on the mend gets show of support, thanks to social media post
A retired NYPD officer is fighting for his life, but thanks to a post on social media, he's not doing it alone.
In July, Mike Vinitsky suffered a heart attack and was diagnosed with ALS. He retired from the force in 2010, with injuries he sustained on the job back in 2007.
Police say he was attacked by a prisoner he was guarding in the hospital.
A call for support went out this past Saturday on social media. Since then hundreds of people from all over have stopped by to show him support.
page has been set up in his honor to help with medical bills.
