The NYPD is using a growing number of Smart cars on patrol -- and officers say it's partly because they're easier to park.
"It's easier because of the stability, number one," says Officer Jimmy Haskell. "We can get to emergencies much quicker than if we were to use the three-wheel scooter."
Police now have about 150 on the streets, officials say. They expect another 75 over the next few months.
The Smart cars serve another purpose as well, according to officials -- they have a more friendly appearance.
As cities ranging from Phoenix, Arizona, to Pocatello, Idaho, have learned, citizens are more likely to strike up conversations or pose for pictures with officers driving Smart cars.
