Emergency services are resuming at Long Island College Hospital under new management and a new name.
NYU Langone Medical Center has taken over the emergency room at the Cobble Hill medical facility, renaming it NYU Langone-Cobble Hill. Despite the purchase and reopening of the walk-in department, the hospital itself remains closed and will eventually be turned into condos.
Many people living in the area are disappointed, saying they deserve a fully functional hospital and worry that the emergency services will be inadequate.
However, NYU Langone is assuring everyone that the new department will provide the highest level of care, with the ability to treat all critically ill patients. It says that once treated, patients who will require more attention will then be transferred to other facilities.
The ER will employ more than 100 medical professional around the clock, and is expected to having emergency ambulatory services in the coming weeks.
