Two people were killed and dozens displaced by a massive early morning fire at an apartment building in Williamsburg Monday, police say.
The fire gutted a three-story apartment building at the corner of Richardson and Lorimer streets around 1:30 a.m., according to police.
Two of the nearly 200 firefighters who responded were injured in the blaze, according to officials. Both are expected to be OK.
Officials say EMTs discovered a body after searching the building. Several hours later, they say they recovered a second body.
Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it may have sparked beneath a kitchen floorboard on the left side of the building.
Residents say they heard a loud explosion moments before the building erupted in flames and smoke filled the hallways.
