Borough officials are calling for action after a 30-year-old bicyclist was killed in a multicar crash Monday morning.
Officials say the bicyclist was hit by a Honda Pilot that lost control on Fourth Avenue near the Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and City Councilman Robert Cornegy rode their bikes Tuesday to the scene of the accident to assess traffic issues in the area.
Adams, an avid bicyclist, called Flatbush Avenue a dangerous road. He says that following Monday's accident, he wants studies to be conducted to determine ways that traffic patterns could be adjusted.
"I'm sure increased bike lanes would help the situation, but with this amount of cars and bikes on the road, tragedies like this are bound to happen," said Ryan Daley of Bushwick.
According to the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, this is the third fatal accident to happen in the area over the last three years.
News 12 reached out to the city's Department of Transportation to see if the agency plans to look into the issues, but has not yet heard back.
