There was a big turnout in Park Slope Friday as officials and concerned citizens demanded changes in the wake of Monday's car crash that killed two children.
News 12 has reported that a 43-year-old woman plowed into a crosswalk at Fifth Avenue and Ninth Street – killing 1-year-old Joshua Lew and 4-year-old Abigail Blumenstein. The girl's mother, Ruthie Ann Miles, a Tony Award-winning actress was pregnant and injured during the incident.
Officials and parents who lost children of their own gathered near the intersection to demand slower speed limits and speed bumps. Transportation advocates have also proposed narrowing the street to slow down cars and trucks.
In the wake of this tragedy, Mayor Bill de Blasio says his office will immediately review this area for safety improvements.
Miles is now out of the intensive care unit and says she is healing from the loss of her 4-year-old daughter.
