Officials: Teen pulled unconscious from pool at Cypress Hills swim class
A teen was pulled out of a pool unconscious during a swim class at Cypress Hills High School and is now recovering.
Officials say the 15-year-old boy is expected to be OK after he swallowed water and had to be rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The incident occurred during a class run by Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation. Emergency responders got a call that someone was drowning inside the building.
Police say the teen was rushed to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where they were able to get him breathing again.
A spokesperson for the city's Department of Education said in a statement, "Safety always comes first, and a lifeguard immediately dove into the pool and began administering CPR while EMS was called. The student is in stable condition, and we will provide additional counseling support to the school community."
The DOE says it will conduct a full investigation.
