After days of long lines, things are finally moving smoothly at the IDNYC center inside the Brooklyn Public Library now that the city has moved to an online appointment system.
Municipal identification cards are available to every city resident, regardless of one's immigration status. They help grant access to some city services.
The application process takes less than five minutes, but some have criticized the rollout of the program because of website glitches and long lines. To make the process more efficient, anyone planning on applying for a municipal identification card must now make an appointment online before heading to pick it up.
City Council members say that in the last three days, close to 5,000 people have already applied for an ID card.
