With Whole Foods Market getting ready to plant its roots in Gowanus, some groups are worried that the grocer might not be a good fit for the area.
The grocery chain says it is about to begin construction on a new location at the empty site at 3rd Avenue and 3rd Street.
The Gowanus Institute, however, says the grocer could have found a better location, and that a manufacturing plant would have been be a better fit for the area, providing more jobs.
Whole Foods says the new site will add about 300 jobs, most of which will be full-time.
