A Park Slope elementary school will not share space with an Arabic academy, according to the Department of Education, which scrapped plans amid an outcry from parents.

The DOE says the new Khalil Gibran International Academy will be located in a school that has yet to be named. Parents of P.S. 282 students expressed concern that middle school students would be attending school with their young children. Some parents even said they worried about extreme Islamic culture taking hold in Brooklyn.

Khalil Gibran Principal Debbie Almontaser has yet to comment on the DOE's decision.

The academy is named after a famed Lebanese-American Christian poet who promoted peace. Education officials say the curriculum will be in line with basics required from public schools, while integrating elements of its theme.
