Police: 5 hospitalized when school bus from Brooklyn overturns in NJ
Five people were taken to the hospital Thursday after a school bus full of children from Brooklyn overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike, according to state police there.
All of the injuries appeared to be minor, police said. Four children were taken to a hospital in Brooklyn and an adult was taken to a hospital in Elizabeth. There were about 55 students from the Mevakshei Hashem school in Brooklyn aboard the bus at the time of the crash.
The crash happened just after 4 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike near Exit 13 and the Goethals Bridge.
The fifth-grade students were on their way back from a New Jersey amusement park when the incident happened.
Many of the students on the bus were not wearing seatbelts, but school officials say they plan to change their policies on wearing them.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
