The NYPD is asking for the public’s help searching for the person they said stole money from a 7-year-old boy.
Police said the unidentified person snatched the cash right out of the child’s hands. The robber was caught on camera while leaving Richard’s Fruits and Vegetables on Jerome Avenue in Mount Eden.
Police said the boy’s mother attempted to stop the suspect, who then punched the mom in the face and took off.
“It’s crazy,” said Erick Vidals, the store owner. “It’s really, like, shocking.”
Vidals said that the boy was trying to purchase produce for his 38-year-old mother, who he said is a regular customer.
Vidals said the suspect is also a familiar face.
“I’ve seen [the suspect] before,” Vidals said. “She was wearing a wig that day. She’s always asking for a dollar in the street.”
Police said the incident happened on Sept. 24. The mother received medical treatment on the scene.
“It’s crazy, man,” said one street vendor who asked not to be identified. “It’s terrible what’s happening around here.”
