A procession made its way through Hudson County Monday to honor the life of New York Waterway founder Arthur Imperatore, who died last week.

The memorial began on County Road and ended at Port Imperial in Weehawken. Those who worked with Imperatore, including firefighters and police officers, took part in the event.

Imperatore was remembered as a visionary.

"Everybody forgets in the early 80s, the mid-80s, when he started the ferry system, that the land was vacant. There was nothing down here, not even a decent road,” says Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner. “Arthur was an entrepreneur, and he put all he could...into believing that a modern ferry system - NY Waterway system - would work and it helped open up the waterfront."

Imperatore was 95 years old.
