Throgs Neck residents gathered Saturday outside of Councilwoman Marjorie Velazquez’s Bronx office to protest the Bruckner Rezoning Plan, which was passed this week.
The plan will allow an eight-story building to be built on top of a local supermarket. The building will provide 349 affordable housing units.
Protest attendees have concerns that the building will raise the density of the neighborhood.
Councilwoman Velazquez released a statement saying the project would bring housing and job benefits to the community.
The New York City Council will vote on the plan on Oct. 12.
