Some Brooklyn residents are rallying to save the waterfront in Gravesend.
The city wants to build a waste transfer station at Shore Parkway and Bay 41st Street. Protesters oppose part of the plan that calls for dredging the water to clear pollution left behind from an incineration plant that closed in 1990. Critics fear the dredging will spread contaminants to wildlife and other parts of the water.
The Army Corps of Engineers must sign off on any plan at the site.
