Public advocate under fire for jihad comment
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio is facing criticism for a jihad reference he made while talking about teacher evaluations.
During a United Federation of Teachers (UFT) event, Blasio blamed Mayor Michael Bloomberg for trouble in city schools, saying the mayor was "on a jihad against teachers."
The controversial ratings were made public last week following a long legal battle between the Department of Education (DOE) and the UFT about how teacher performance should be evaluated.
