FORECAST:
Strong gusts are anticipated today as a result of a dry northwest push of arctic air. This wind can gust up to 50 mph at times in areas under a Wind Advisory. This advisory is in effect for Sussex, Passaic, Morris, Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Union, and coastal Monmouth, coastal Ocean, coastal Burlington, and coastal Atlantic counties through 10 p.m. tonight for gusts 30-50 mph. Crosswinds on bridges and elevated roadways continue to be a hazard. North-South roads can also experience strong gusts that may move vehicles out of lanes or even tip high profile vehicles such as trucks, especially if they are empty. Please drive cautiously today. Few power outages are possible, too, due to downed tree limbs.
Wind affects the feel-like temperature, keeping it very low in the single digits and teens throughout the day. Temperatures stay generally near freezing or below this afternoon.
The wind relaxes tonight with lows in the upper teens and low 20s, again. Tomorrow is breezy but not as bad with gusts near 25 mph. Clouds build in the sky ahead of the next weather system what dives well south of NJ. This will prevent big snow but will encourage light snow showers and flurries for early Saturday morning.
Light snow arrives overnight Friday and continues until about 11 a.m. Saturday with sun emerging Saturday afternoon. Although this snow is not a big deal, it will quickly stick due to the cold temperatures. This creates a slippery coating on untreated surfaces, so please be careful.
Most of the state will see under an inch of snow, but some places in South Jersey can see up to 2 inches. The weather turns quiet for early next week with sun and clouds and temperatures near 40 for Sunday and Monday. This comes ahead of the return of cold and windy weather for midweek next week.
