Dozens gathered in East New York to protest Akai Gurley's death following his funeral on Saturday.
Gurley, 28, was accidentally shot and killed last month by Officer Peter Liang inside the Pink Houses. Liang was patrolling a stairwell with his partner at the time of the incident.
Friends, family and strangers came out and said their last goodbyes at a church in Clinton Hill. Dozens of organizations convened afterward for a rally at the public housing complex.
Those in attendance said that unarmed black men are especially prone to dying at the hands of police. They said that the recent decisions to not indict officers involved in deadly shootings make it worse.
Organizers say they want to keep their momentum going, and have already planned additional rallies and marches in the coming weeks.
