The city's Parks Department opened the newly renovated Powell Playground Thursday in Brownsville. 
State Assemblyman Erik Dikan and Councilman Rafael Espinal helped raise $2.7 million in funds for the project.
Changes to the playground include four new basketball courts, a handball court and fitness equipment
In 2013, Houston Playground was also reconstructed as part of the same project. The total cost for both renovated playgrounds cost over $5 million.
