Some notable lawmakers will be taking part in the public inauguration ceremony for Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani on Jan. 1.

The program will begin with opening remarks from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Sen. Bernie Sanders will give the oath of office and swear in the new mayor.

Mamdani says AOC has been a partner across his campaign and his transition into City Hall.

“For the many New Yorkers who have long felt betrayed by a broken status quo, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez embodies a new kind of politics that puts working people at the heart of it,” said Mamdani.

The congresswoman and senator will be among the 4,000 ticketed guests invited to City Hall Plaza for the inauguration.

A public block party will be held on Broadway along the Canyon of Heroes. There will be a dedicated viewing area for participants to watch the ceremony.
