The 60th Assembly District special election will be held Saturday for those living in southeast Brooklyn.

For the past 20 years, the 60th Assembly District and the City Council District have been represented by one of two people - Charles Barron or his wife, Inez Barron.

Charles Barron returned to the City Council this year while Inez Barron stepped away.

Kings County Democrats picked community activist and advocate Nikki Lucas to run for the seat. She ran against Charles Barron last year for City Council.

She says that among her top priorities are education, access to health care and housing.

"We're No. 1 in gun violence, No.1 in homelessness. These are things that are real things facing this community and there has not been a piece of legislation that has addressed this coming out of this particular district and it has to stop," she also says.

Keron Alleyne is running on the Working Families Line. He is a community organizer, former staffer for Charles Barron and the deputy district manager of Brooklyn Community Board 5. His plan has six pillars - housing, health care, education, public safety, transportation and climate change.

The Barrons also endorsed Alleyne - who refers to the couple as mentors.

There is a Republican candidate on the ballot - Marvin J. King. Early voting begins Saturday and runs through Feb. 13. Election Day is on Feb. 15.

There is also a special election for the 72nd Assembly District - which covers parts of Manhattan and the Marble Hill neighborhood in the Bronx.
