Residents urged to grill safely on Labor Day holiday
Brooklyn residents were urged to pay attention to safety regulations while barbecuing outside on Labor Day.
In New York City parks, residents can only barbecue in designated areas and grills need to be at least 2 feet above the ground.
Only charcoal grills are permitted, and they must be kept at least 10 feet away from buildings or trees.
Residents were also urged to check grills for blockages and inspect cracking or holes. Officials also said to move propane hoses far away from hot surfaces and grease, to refrain from attempting to repair propane tanks and to not store tanks indoors or underground.
