Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney announced the results of the Retail Protection Partnership to combat shoplifting and stop repeat offenders.
The program allows merchants and law enforcement to work together to identify repeat shoplifters who often hit the same store multiple times - and levy stronger charges in the process.
Retailers involved include Target, Home Depot and CVS.
The DA says they have convicted half of the county's top shoplifters, and they are prosecuting the other half.
