Dozens of high school and college student volunteers are picking up trash in Bensonhurst as part of the Speak Up and Clean Up campaign.
The city's Department of Sanitation lent brooms, shovels, gloves and bags to the approximately 75 volunteers Tuesday. The group was led by Assemblyman Bill Colton to clean up trash along 86 Street.
In addition to the physical cleanup, the students handed out information regarding sanitation guidelines, rules and ways they can do their part as residents.
The Speak Up Clean Up campaign is planning future volunteer events in the borough.
