Illegal immigrants in Brooklyn may be able to get their hands on a New York state driver?s license if the governor gets his way.
Governor Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) thinks it is time to make some changes to policy, making it possible for immigrants to get drivers? licenses. Spitzer says high-tech security measures will be part of the strict approval process. He claims there are up to one million undocumented workers in New York and by adding them to the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) database, roads will be safer.
Critics say the new policy could lead to more terrorism. Spitzer says the new security measures will be the strictest of any state DMV in the nation.
