Family and friends came together to celebrate the life of an autistic woman who choked to death while at school.
Dyasha Smith was remembered during a special memorial service Tuesday at the Guarino Funeral Home in Canarsie.
The 21-year-old non-verbal student died while eating a muffin at Star Academy, located in the School for International Studies in Cobble Hill, last week.
Smith's mother, Catherine Smith, says the school was aware that her daughter's food needed to be cut up or else she would swallow it whole. The family is taking legal action, saying her death was due to neglect.
The Department of Education say it's conducting a full investigation into the incident.
