Students and teachers across the borough took to the streets on Thursday during National Day of Action.
Students from Casa Middle School in Baychester demanded that Albany distribute $4.8 billion owned to state and city public schools from a 2007 court settlement that found schools weren't getting enough funding.
They said they are still waiting for a portion of the funds for close to a decade.
On Franklin Avenue, a different rally took place at the Harriett Tubman Charter School. Protesters said a law that gives state facilities funding to charter schools formed after 2014 is unfair. They said older charters schools have to come up with the funds on their own.
"We need more funding. If we were not spending the state government-issued monies that we have on leasing of buildings, we could spend more, each child could have their own technology, their own iPad, their own laptop," said Felicia Yaber, of Harriett Tubman Charter School.
