Yesenia Rodriguez is sweetening the deal for locals with a fresh twist on a Dominican classic.
Sweets and Things on Fulton Street specializes in tres leches cakes, offering more than 40 rotating flavors.
Rodriguez’s journey into baking started nearly a decade ago when she began experimenting with cakes at home.
"My favorite dessert has always been tres leches cake, and that's why I just started creating different flavors of that specific cake," Rodriguez said. "And then I just decided, OK, you know what? Now it's time to make my own cake. And that's where everything started."
Her shop, which opened last November, is a labor of love, inspired by her Dominican heritage.
Sweets and Things is open seven days a week.
