Officials recommended Friday that taxi drivers stop late-night service after driver Khadim Hussain Bhati was fatally shot by a passenger Wednesday in Coney Island.
Taxi and limousine officials are asking police and cab drivers to help suspend the dollar service during what they have determined to be the most dangerous times between midnight and 6 a.m. One driver estimates that stopping service would mean losing about $100 a night per driver.
Cab drivers are asking residents to call the base in advance to request a taxi until detectives in the 60th precinct can arrest the suspect who shot Bhati.
