Testimony in the murder trial against Daniel St. Hubert came to a close Wednesday, a day before closing arguments are expected to begin in the courtroom.

St. Hubert is accused of stabbing two children, one fatally, in an East New York elevator four years ago. He waived his right to testify in his own defense Wednesday.

The victims were PJ Avitto, 6, who died in the attack, and Mikayla Capers, now 11, who survived her injuries.

One of the final witnesses was Regenia Trevaythan, the girl's great-grandmother.

St. Hubert's defense attorney, Howard Greenberg, tried to paint the surviving victim as a liar during his examination of Trevaythan, creating tension in the courtroom.

The lead investigator in the case also testified that a knife carrying St. Hubert's DNA found at the scene linked him to the crime as well -- although his fingerprints were not found on the weapon or in the elevator.

Greenberg says investigators were lazy, asking, "What do they do? They shut it down because they have a hit? They don't investigate the second hit? They don't investigate the multiple hits?"
