The Urban Youth Initiative and the Bronx Colts Youth Association teamed up to revamp sports programs.
The partnership, announced Saturday, is making it a priority to inspire teens and kids and teach them the importance of choosing peace over violence, especially after the increase of gun violence that’s been seen citywide. The partnership was also formed as many youths are getting their hands on guns or falling victim to gun violence in their own neighborhood.
The two organizations team-up comes just a month after 11-year-old Kyhara Tay was
killed by a stray bullet in May.
On Saturday, Tay’s family was at Cardinal Hayes High School for a special ceremony for student athletes.
The New York Giants also attended and donated a jersey and crystal football in her honor to show solidarity with the family, but also be a symbolic stance against gun violence.
