Usamah Sidberry was formally charged with murder at the Kings County Supreme Court Friday.
Dyseem Jackson, a 21-year-old man from Crown Heights, was shot and killed at the Albany Houses in the early morning of July 12.
Police say it happened after the two got into an argument.
Jackson, who the family tells News 12 had no relation to Sidberry, saw the man inappropriately touch a woman.
This is when police say Jackson stepped in to intervene.
Moments later, police responded to a 911 and upon arrival, found Jackson with gunshot wounds in his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Friday's arraignment consisted of Sidberry being formally charged and officially pleading not guilty.
Following the quick arraignment, News 12 was in court when Jackson's mother saw Sidberry's sister and expressed her disinterest in her being there.
Seconds later, Sidberry's sister threw her phone at Ms. Jackson, along with a tote bag.
Both families got riled up and all were eventually escorted out of the court room.
Sidberry's sister left in handcuffs.
Sidberry's next day in court is scheduled for Sept. 6.
