The Vision Zero team of police officers was in Kensington Tuesday, handing out fliers and educating the public on traffic and pedestrian safety.
Ocean Parkway's intersection at Church Avenue is considered one of the most dangerous and deadliest intersections in Brooklyn. The Department of Transportation says five people were killed crossing the intersection between 2007 and 2011.
The police officers are part of the Vision Zero team, working on Mayor Bill de Blasio's plan to eliminate all traffic-related deaths through education and increasing enforcement.
People who live nearby say they want the traffic lights at the intersection to last longer, so pedestrians have enough time to cross the street. The DOT installed countdown clocks at the intersection, but pedestrians say drivers are not always good at slowing down and yielding.
Radar signs are also being strategically placed along Ocean Parkway.
