An invasive weed that can grow up to 18 feet tall is taking over the shoreline of Prospect Park's lake.
The weeds, called phragmites, are blocking scenic views of the lake and hurting the important wildlife habitat. Park officials say the phragmites have been a problem for several years, but now weeds have recently begun reaching their maximum height.
The Prospect Park Alliance has launched a "Fight The Phrag" campaign. They are looking for volunteers to help with the problem this Saturday by getting in the water and using pieces of wood and tarp to cover the weeds, which will eventually kill them.
All volunteers will get to wear a pair of waders so they can get in the water and attack the weeds.
