Small fridges filled with fresh food are available for anyone in need throughout the borough.
This initiative is part of One Love Community Fridge's mission to ensure everyone can access nourishment.
News 12's Katelynn Ulrich recently joined the founder of One Love as they stocked a fridge in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The One Love Community Fridge team replenishes these mini fridges daily throughout the neighborhood.
"The quality of the food and the nutritional value is something I feel really good about," said founder Asmeret Berhe-Lumax.
Residents in Bedford-Stuyvesant seem share that sentiment, with one local noting, "Yum!"
Food insecurity in Bedford-Stuyvesant is approximately 3% higher than the city average.
"The numbers are high in Bed-Stuy, but it's everywhere. Downtown Manhattan has the highest real estate values, and it's the same in areas like Fort Greene," Berhe-Lumax explained.
One Love began in 2020 as similar initiatives emerged across the city. However, it has continued to expand beyond fridges.
"We do food drives, packing days, and a lot of educational programming as well," Berhe-Lumax added.
Donations come from partners such as Oko Farms, community members and even local restaurants volunteering to host the fridges.
