A Toms River police officer is facing charges related to a home invasion.
Berkeley Township police say officers arrested Rebecca Sayegh, 32, for breaking into a home on Evernhan Avenue.
The incident happened on April 25. Police say Sayegh was off duty at the time. They say she smashed the front glass door to the home and assaulted two people inside. Police also say Sayegh damaged a car in the driveway.
Sayegh faces several charges, including home invasion burglary, assault and resisting arrest. She is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
In 2021, Sayegh was honored for entering a burning home and rescuing a woman and her pets.
