City health officials say a Bed-Stuy man who had just returned from West Africa has tested negative for Ebola at Bellevue Hospital.

According to the Daily News, the patient was picked up at 21 Spencer Place in Bed-Stuy earlier Thursday. The patient, believed to be in his 50s, had returned from Mali a little over a week ago. According to the Daily News, he went to Interfaith Medical Center Wednesday with flu-like symptoms. He was then sent home, but allegedly called 911 Thursday morning and told the operator he had just returned from West Africa. The man was then taken to Bellevue by a crew of ambulances.

Mali is not one of the three West African nations at the center of the Ebola outbreak. The country has had six confirmed cases of Ebola, five of which were fatal.

The city's Health and Mental Hygiene Department says the patient will remain in isolation for the next few days so he can continue to be monitored.
