The number of traffic-related deaths in New York City is at a record low this year.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg made the announcement at Grand Army Plaza, where he said safety improvements made this fall should only help build on the reduced numbers.
Bloomberg also cited a 40-percent decrease in accidents since 2001 and 134 pedestrian fatalities in 2011. He said biking deaths remained the same over the past decade, despite ridership quadrupling during that time period.
