Bronx Rise Against Gun Violence, also known as BRAG, held a barbecue Saturday to spread their message of peace to the community.
The section of East 193rd Street between Jerome Avenue and Morris Avenue was closed off as people enjoyed the food, games, and music.
BRAG hopes to raise awareness and promote peace with the celebration.
Michael Rodriguez, the organization’s executive director, lost his own brother due to violence 18 years ago.
"I know what it's like for a mother to lose a child, for a brother to lose a brother, a sister to lose their brothers. Every time we hear about this, it affects me, it affects the community, and it brings back trauma,” Rodriguez said.
