Brooklyn Conservatory of Music holds 5th annual World Refugee Day Music Festival

Now in its fifth year, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music blocked off the street and filled it with musical performances from artists who once sought refugee status, to highlight their strength and courage.
Sunday marks World Refugee Day – an initiative that the United Nations started to celebrate and honor those who fled their country from conflict and persecution.
Officials from the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music said that the festival was born after former President Donald Trump issued a travel ban on several countries.
They wanted to raise awareness about the struggles refugees face, as well as show off their unique talents through art and music.
Showcasing the work of artists from different regions is an added step towards bringing refugees to the forefront.
Throughout the summer, there will be several events and ways to help refugees from the conservatory.
