Sahadi's Lebanese grocery store in Brooklyn Heights has been awarded national recognition.

The store was awarded national recognition in June by the James Beard Foundation for its ongoing effort to make America's food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable.

The grocery was opened in 1948 by a Lebanese immigrant named Wade Sahadi, daughter Christine Sahadi Whelan says.

Formerly an exclusive Lebanese grocery, Sahadi now offers international food in order to accommodate the taste of the diverse neighborhood, Sahadi Whelan says.

Sahadi's beat out 1,000 other businesses around the nation to receive the James Beard America's Classics award.
