An East Flatbush man has been sentenced for fatally shooting his girlfriend inside their shared home before firing multiple rounds at her young family.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez says Peter Hibbert will serve 25 years to life behind bars for killing Jacqueline Wilson and attempting to harm Wilson’s daughter, son-in-law and their newborn baby on May 7, 2023.

Prosecutors say the violence unfolded just before 3 a.m. inside a home on East 96th Street.

Hibbert, 51, and Wilson, 49, had been in a relationship for around three years at the time.

Hibbert shot Wilson multiple times, including in the head, torso and leg. He then pointed the gun at Wilson’s adult daughter, her husband and their baby, according to court documents.

Hibbert fired multiple times towards the young family as they rushed to seek shelter, barricading themselves inside a bedroom. Two more bullets pierced the bedroom door as they waited for the police to arrive.

EMS rushed Wilson to the hospital, where she died.

The young family made it out physically unharmed.

Prosecutors say police arrested Hibbert after they found him asleep in the basement of the home a short time later.

He was convicted of murder and criminal possession of a weapon on March 18, 2026.

"Jacqueline Wilson was shot to death inside her own home and others, including a terrified family with a six-week-old baby, were forced to barricade themselves to survive,” Gonzalez said. “This was a senseless act of violence and I hope today's sentence brings some measure of solace to the family, who endured unthinkable pain and trauma at the hands of this defendant."
