An 82-year-old woman died after a fire destroyed a four-story brownstone in Bedford-Stuyvesant Saturday.
Almost 100 firefighters responded to the fire on Halsey Street. The victim was identified as the owner of the building. Her relatives say she was confined to a hospital bed and couldn?t escape the fire. Investigators say the fire started on the second floor.
Five firefighters and one civilian were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The Red Cross is helping two families displace by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
