Food Fight: Pokeworks
News 12 viewers voted, and Pokeworks is the week one winner of the Food Fight contest.
The Park Slope restaurant got thousands of votes from Brooklyn residents clamoring for one of its top dishes.
Pokeworks on 7th Avenue received 8,852 votes in week one of News 12 Brooklyn's Food Fight contest.
The franchise has only been around for four months and is the first in the borough.

"We were very shocked and amazed and very thankful for the support of all our customers and everybody that voted for us," says franchise owner Oleg Rud.

So, what exactly is poke?

"A very popular Hawaiian type of dish where you have ahi tuna slightly marinated served over rice. It recently came to the East Coast where you see more poke restaurants opening up," says Rud.

The dish that viewers voted number one is the Hawaiian Classic, which has ahi tuna, green and sweet onion, ogo seawee, cucumber and lots of seasonings.

Rud says a lot of people come to the restaurant because they like all the healthy quick options they can get.

"The food’s very fresh, so it's a good selection. I think it's also very interesting just kind of the you can choose different toppings, different types of foods," says customer Aleksandra Popkowskia, of Park Slope.
