Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes plays in his fourth Super Bowl this weekend - and a Stamford legend remembers him as a little kid.
At only 28 years old, Patrick Mahomes is one of the most dangerous and athletic quarterbacks in the National Football League.
"Watching Patrick on TV now is great," said Stamford native and former Mets Manager Bobby Valentine.
Valentine remembers first meeting a very young Mahomes when his dad pitched for the Mets.
"His first day he was out he was just a little guy and he's running around the outfield and next to Benny Agbayani as I remember and I said Oh my Benny's going to trample him and then I realized he got better jumps on the fly balls than Benny did," said Valentine.
Valentine says he always knew Patrick Mahomes was going to be something special.
"Grew up to be the best quarterback that I've ever seen," said Valentine.
Valentine says he now has another connection to the star quarterback.
"I had a third baseman in Texas named Steve Buechele who's a dear friend of mine and his fifth child was the backup to Patrick last year," said Valentine.
Mahomes hopes to get his third Super Bowl ring this weekend.
"Hopefully, he'll stay healthy because God he's fun to watch," said Valentine.
He's chasing Tom Brady's record seven Super Bowl Titles.
