An ice pop shop in Williamsburg is bringing a taste of the West Indies to Brooklyn.
Couple Khalid Hamid and wife Shelly Marshall are from Trinidad and Tobago and actually went to the same high school but never met until they worked in Brooklyn.
Eventually the two got married and opened their store Island Pops.
First introducing their deserts and frozen concoctions at parties, the two quickly rose above the ranks and Island Pops were in high demand.
The couple used a combination of Caribbean rum, spices, fruits, and herbs like mint to make delicious tasting and sweet deserts.
Island Pop's recently came in first place for Brooklyn Library's PowerUp competition for small businesses and were awarded $15,000.
