Brooklyn residents rid themselves of modern tyrannies on Saturday as the Old Stone House held a Revolutionary War reenactment of the event from 247 years ago.

On July 9, 1776, American soldiers in Battery Park finally heard the Declaration of Independence after its ratification in Philadelphia.

And when they heard the call for independence, "a group of them that night decided to tear down a statue of King George III because they were so moved by the declaration and the impending fight and because it was a very important symbol for the revolution," according to Dylan Yates.
