Members of the Warbasse Jewish Heritage Congregation are denouncing a Nazi flag that was displayed near their place of worship.
Residents of the Amalgamated Warbasse Houses in Coney Island say the flag was spotted Saturday, creating panic and concern in the community where many residents are descendants of Holocaust survivors.
Community members came together Sunday to show solidarity and to denounce the symbol of hate.
“This will not be tolerated in Southern Brooklyn,” says Ari Kagan, a committee member for the 45th Assembly District. “This will not be tolerated in New York City; this will not be tolerated in the United State of America.”
Councilman Mark Treyger says he contacted the NYPD to report the flag, but was told a banner inside a home is not a crime. He says he hopes to prevent incidents like this from happening through dialogue and education.
