Jurors reviewed evidence Wednesday in the trial of Lillo Brancato, Jr., the former actor accused of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of an off-duty NYPD officer.
After hearing closing arguments on Tuesday, the jury requested that the judge replay the 911 call placed by off-duty police Officer Daniel Enchautegui after he was shot in 2005 while trying to stop Brancato and Steven Armento from breaking into a Pelham Bay home. According to reports, jurors whispered back and forth to each other after hearing the call again, and one juror shook his head in confusion.
Armento was convicted of first-degree murder on Oct. 30 and later sentenced to life in prison without parole. Brancato has said he was suffering from heroin withdrawal when he and Armento went to an apartment where the actor had obtained drugs before. Authorities say Armento and Brancato broke into the basement apartment to steal prescription drugs after a night of drinking at a strip club.
The jury has also requested to hear the last three charges against Brancato in layman?s terms. According to authorities, the jury must dismiss the first two charges of second-degree murder and first-degree burglary to consider the other charges against Brancato.
A verdict has yet to be decided upon.
