More blacks and Latinos are getting stopped and frisked in Brooklyn and the city by police officers, according to the NYPD.
A new NYPD report shows someone is stopped and frisked every 20 minutes in neighborhoods like East New York. While police say the stop-and-frisk increase is linked to an increase in violence, critics call the practice racial profiling. 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement is calling for Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly to resign and for the "harassment" to stop.
Many residents agree, saying they are law-abiding, taxpaying citizens, not criminals. Several civil liberties groups plan to file suit against the city.
